About Umlimisi

Built from real farming experience in Eswatini, for farmers and the agribusiness community across Southern Africa.

The story

Umlimisi started on a farm, not in an office. When we launched Ekukhuleni Farm, we ran into every challenge a smallholder farmer faces — unpredictable weather, pest pressure with no early warning, paper records that fell apart by harvest time, and no easy way to know whether a season was actually profitable until it was over.

We couldn't find a tool that solved these problems in a way that worked for how farming actually happens here — on a phone browser, in siSwati and English, with spotty connectivity, and without needing to download an app or learn a complex system.

So we built one.

Umlimisi (siSwati: "the one who watches over") is what came out of that — a mobile-first farm management platform that combines AI-powered diagnostics, weather intelligence, and practical record-keeping to help farmers grow more, lose less, and track profit.

How we work

We continue to develop Umlimisi based on ongoing farming experience. Every feature starts with a real problem encountered on the ground — either on Ekukhuleni Farm itself, or from the farmers and agribusiness partners who use the platform. Nothing is built on assumption alone.

The platform now serves the wider agribusiness stakeholder community — extension officers, cooperatives, input suppliers, buyers, financial institutions, insurers, researchers, and government programmes — connecting them to the farm-level evidence that makes better decisions possible for everyone.

Ekukhuleni Labs

Umlimisi is a product of Ekukhuleni Labs, based in Esibhomeni, Ka Sukati, Manzini, Eswatini.

The company was founded by two people with complementary backgrounds — one in technology, one in agriculture. That combination is deliberate: the platform needs to be technically excellent and agronomically sound. One without the other doesn't work.

Powered by Lunyazi
Umlimisi's communication and notification system — schedule reminders, weather alerts, disease warnings, marketplace updates — is powered by Lunyazi, Ekukhuleni Labs' own communications platform.
